Rundle Ramblers

Photographed in the early hours of a winter morning along Vermilion Lakes Road in Banff, Rundle Ramblers captures two wolves crossing a frozen lake beneath the iconic presence of Mount Rundle. The scene began in near darkness, guided first by sound—the unmistakable chorus of ravens echoing across the snow.

As the light slowly lifted, wolves emerged onto the lake: one black, one grey, moving with quiet purpose across the frozen surface. Recognizing the rare opportunity to place wildlife within such a defining landscape, a mid-range lens was chosen to balance subject and environment—an image long imagined and finally realized.

Silhouetted against the snow, framed by stillness and scale, this photograph reflects both the raw beauty of Banff and the patience required to witness it.
