Low tide sets the dinner table for the bears of coastal waters. In Lake clark’s coastal waters the Razor clams are a main spring food source for these large Brown Bears.
On a rainy socked in day the visibility dropped to about 50 meters, giving a great clean backdrop for this set of images. With the rising tide the rush is on to dig up as many clams as they can before the ‘dinner table’ is covered.
Mom delicately places her paw into the mud, digging up a clam for her persistent 2 year old cub. The cub was gently nudging the mother with her head, almost as if she was encouraging mom in her efforts.
