This image was made in northwest British Columbia as winter was closing in. I was standing in bitter cold, hands stiff and aching, working carefully to ensure they would still respond when the moment arrived.
A bear stood in the river with a fish in hand—simple, timeless, and wild. But when viewed upside down, the shape of the tail shifted, transforming into something unexpected: a martini glass. The image became less about what was happening and more about how it was seen.
Minimal and playful, this photograph exists in the space between effort and ease, seriousness and humor. It’s a reminder that even in harsh conditions, nature offers moments of lightness—if we’re willing to look twice.
